larry towell

I figured for my first artist's post, I had to do Larry Towell. His work has always inspired me, and seeing his show at the eastman house a few years ago really drove me to be a photographer. It's his style of work that really does it for me, and it's really what i'm looking for out of photography. My favorite part about the work is how he uses light. Two of the examples above show his incredible ability to capture people lit by extraordinary natural light. He seems to capture people in amazing moments, the whole scene just seems to be perfect. Like a lot of photography, his work captures a time, and is even more meaningful due to how it documents history. Whether it is an important moment in history, like the September 11th photograph, or shows a part of a small culture that might not be around very long, like the last photograph of Mennonite women.
